I have often heard 1st Corinthians 5:17 taken out of context. It reads: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
The verse is part of a larger passage that talks about how Christ’s love compels us to live for him and not for ourselves. The passage also talks about how we are being – here’s the process — changed by Christ and are no longer called to regard anyone by their outside appearance.
he passage emphasizes that if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation…spiritually.
I love the fact that His love does not work like a shop vac, immediately changing us. And while we are immediately new spiritually, emotionally and even physically, He partners with us so as to become more like Him in the process.
