Any addiction = chasing a feeling to get rid of another feeling.©

When you have been hurt or betrayed, what do you do? Many of us have been taught to bury it, like a dog buries a bone, deep and almost unfindable. This sort of not feeling and dealing only creates more problems because eventually it comes to the surface via other circumstances.

Several years ago, I came to understand addiction like I’ve never understood it before, and I come from a line of addictions. See, after a triple betrayal, I truly wanted to numb myself so as to not feel the pain, especially at night. I’m so thankful He picked me off of that slippery slope before I slid too far down.

But now, I am able to empathize, not criticize those lost in their addictions. I pray that they would come to an understanding that a momentary fix is only providing a temporary feeling which produces a long-lasting, not so positive result.

Can I encourage you today, pray for anyone you know struggling with any kind of addiction. This will help you empathize, not criticize.
